The provincial or territory health insurance plans we all enjoy usually only cover a portion, if any, up to the amount it would have cost for the same emergency medical attention in your home province. Many emergency health care services outside of Canada cost much more than your provincial health insurance pays if they're covered. You will be responsible for paying the amount not covered by your province's health insurance plan. That's why, even your provincial health care plans often recommend you get private travel medical insurance when heading out of the country.
