Title: Server Consolidation with Sun and Oracle - Developing A
Global Single Instance for Oracle Corporation Leveraging Sun Fire
(TM) Servers, the Solaris Operating System and Sun Cluster Software
with Oracle Database 10g RAC
"The numbers clearly indicate that Oracle made impressive gains in 2004 and widened the gap between itself and the nearest competitor, " said Robert Shimp, vice president of Technology Marketing, Oracle. "The growth is attributable to a number of factors including the availability of Oracle Database 10g, the success of Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One, and the overall acceptance and adoption of our grid computing strategy by customers and partners. Oracle is enabling more customers to obtain greater utilization of their IT systems today."
Card Credit Discover Service For the past several years, Sun Microsystems and Oracle
Corporation have collaborated to develop a highly available,
consolidated system to support Oracle's global operations. This
session will present a case study outlining the first two phases of
the program from installation of four Sun Fire E12K servers
clustered with Solaris 8 OS and Sun Cluster (TM) software all
running Oracle 9i Real Application Clusters to further
consolidation of additional heterogenous systems into the Global
Single Instance.
"The ability to have access to all relevant business services and information from one site is what Oracle.com is all about" said Mark Jarvis, chief marketing officer at Oracle Corp. "By offering SYSTRAN's foreign language translation services as a portlet on Oracle.com, lingual dialog all from their business home page."

(E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, JD
Edwards and Retek) moving to Oracle's Fusion Java
Technology-based Web Services application line,
many customers are wondering what is a Java technology-based Web
Services Architecture? Sun will present the basics of Java
technology-based Web Services Architectures, why it's taking off
in the industry and how customers can take advantage of it. Sun
will also discuss the open sourcing of the Solaris OS -- Oracle,
PeopleSoft and Retek's most widely used UNIX operating system --
and how to automate Oracle application deployment on fewer
servers.

Sun's newly announced family of enterprise-class x64 (x86, 64-bit)
servers, which set new standards for performance, reliability and
energy efficiency. Powered by the AMD Opteron(TM), the
highest-performance x64 processor on the market and running the
Solaris 10 OS, the new industry-standard servers consume about
one-third the power, are one-and-a-half times the performance and
cost half as much as comparably configured 4-way servers from
Dell(1). The industry-standard x64 servers also can run and support
standard distributions of Linux and Windows operating systems.
Credit Security Service Union Solaris 10 OS - Within the Solaris 10 OS, the world's most
advanced operating system, Solaris Containers are designed to allow
numerous application execution environments to be created within a
single instance of the Solaris OS, allowing multiple applications
to operate on a single server while maintaining specified service
levels. Through Solaris Containers, Sun can help lower the
licensing cost for users who run an Oracle Database. The licensing
agreement between Sun and Oracle recognizes Solaris Containers as a
way for users to pay for only the number of processor cores where
Oracle is assigned. Sun will feature Oracle Database 10g running in
a Solaris Container, illustrating how customers can develop a cost
effective software consolidation strategy based on the Sun
platform.
Credit Report Service Optimal Architecture - Sun's in-house Oracle experts have
created "optimal" infrastructure solutions for Oracle customers
based on Reference Architectures, Reference Designs and Database
Packs. Sun will demonstrate how customers can update their
infrastructure with offerings for customers from the
small-to-medium business to large enterprises. Sun will also
feature one of its comprehensive optimal architectures for Oracle
with a demonstration of Oracle 10g Real Application Clusters on
Solaris 10 OS with Sun Cluster and Sun StorEdge(TM) QFS software,
all protected within a Sun StorEdge 6920 system.
Blogspot Com Christian Sun Data Management -- Sun works closely with Oracle to build
storage solutions that help customers improve database and
application performance, protect data and build an Information
Lifecycle Management (ILM) strategy. Sun will demonstrate a host of
storage and data management solutions that are optimized for
Oracle, including the Sun StorEdge 6920 system and the Sun StorEdge
5310 NAS Appliance. The Sun StorEdge 6920 system, a heterogeneous
storage virtualization array for the mid-market, Sun will
demonstrate how snapshot and mirroring of an Oracle Database can
help customers reduce cost and increase performance potential,
while protecting their critical data. The Sun StorEdge 5310 NAS
Appliance, with its compliance software enabled, will highlight the
benefits of intelligent archiving and backup by performing
snapshots of an Oracle Database and protecting the data utilizing
disk-to-disk-to-tape backup to the new Sun StorEdge C-series tape
library running BakBone NetVault software.
