Watchfire and Spectrum Team to Deliver Comprehensive Security Solutions to the United States Federal Government

Spectrum Extends Vulnerability Assessment Services with Watchfire AppScan, Adds AppScan to GSA schedule

FAIRFAX, VA and WALTHAM, MA - June 28, 2006 - Watchfire, the worldwide market-leading provider of web vulnerability assessment software and services, and Spectrum Systems, Inc., a leading provider of systems and application lifecycle solutions to the U.S. Federal Government, today announced the signing of a strategic partnership and reseller agreement. Spectrum Systems will rely on AppScan to perform web application vulnerability assessments as part of Spectrum services. Spectrum Systems will also resell Watchfire's AppScan and has added the product to their General Services Administration/Federal Supply Service (GSA/FSS) Schedule (GS-35F-5192G).
An increased number of online security breaches have resulted in more rigid control regulations and industry guidelines including FISMA and OMB reporting requirements. Government websites have also grown in size and complexity, and security issues can be spread across millions of web pages. Manually checking for problems can be costly and inefficient. Security is not only a technical challenge -- it can be a matter of national security. To address this, agencies must continually monitor, measure and establish a method of auditing and reporting on potential security risk and levels of compliance. By using AppScan, Spectrum Systems can now incorporate the market-leading web application vulnerability scanning solution into its services and solutions to satisfy this critical government need.

"Federal departments and agencies today are mandated to measure and control risk and vulnerabilities on their web operations to ensure compliance with a number of regulations and requirements," said Ronald Segal, president of Spectrum Systems. "Watchfire's AppScan is invaluable in its ability to not only catch security defects that could present a vulnerability before going live with new Web applications, but it also audits live Websites for new vulnerabilities and compliance reporting. Combining Watchfire's application scanning solution with Spectrum's services and application development and testing products delivers an unparalleled capability to government agencies that are dealing with large-scale software projects."

For 20 years, Spectrum Systems has been providing its Government customers with a complete application development and protection capability from concept to long-term productivity optimization and management. Spectrum is also one of Mercury's -- a provider of business technology optimization (BTO) software -- largest reseller. Watchfire is also a strong partner of Mercury and has integrated versions of AppScan with Mercury Quality Center, enabling all aspects of web application testing functional, load and security -- to be managed and run directly from the Quality Center environment. Building web application security testing into the software development lifecycle (SDLC) is an important part of the overall quality assurance process.

AppScan scans web applications within the infrastructure, tests for security issues and provides actionable reports and fix recommendations. Recently named the market-share leader by two industry analyst firms[1], AppScan is the undisputed market leading web application security testing suite and the only one to provide comprehensive remediation tasks at every level of the application. The addition of AppScan to Spectrum's offerings will provide Federal, State and Local Governments access to the market-leading web application security solution to help government agencies and companies address critical issues that affect their web application security and compliance and will increase the business value of their IT investments.

"A more secure Federal information infrastructure results in both increased citizen satisfaction and trust," said Peter McKay, president and CEO, Watchfire. "As more information is collected and transferred through the Internet, it is imperative that a company's web applications are protected. Spectrum's strength in providing security and compliance services, combined with Watchfire's market-leading web vulnerability assessment software, make this an essential offering for Agencies and companies looking to manage critical application security issues on their site."

Watchfire has also today introduced an expanded partner program, designed to further extend the Company's rapidly-growing international and domestic channels. See the channel program announcement also issued today at: http://www.watchfire.com/news/press.aspx
