Bayonne Getting $400G Grant For Testing 30 Acres On East Side

Credit Pacific Service Union The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Bayonne a $400,000 grant to conduct an environmental assessment of land in the so-called "Gateway Redevelopment Area" along the Route 440 corridor.

New patches of green will soon sprout up around Bayonne now that the New Jersey Green Acres Program awarded the city two grants for two parks. The grants are $250, 000 each and will go towards a parcel of land known as the North 440 park and towards creating a new park just east of Avenue F. "The announcement of the two grants is very good news for Bayonne, " said Mayor Joseph V. Doria Jr. "The funding for the uptown property will enable us to do additional work to develop a passive waterfront park."

Credit First Service Union More specifically, the area targeted for testing is a 30-acre tract, extending from East 32nd Street to East 22nd Street along Route 440 southbound, and is comprised of both public and private properties, city officials said.

A new online debt test has been launched by the BBC, the FSA (Financial Services Authority) and credit rating firm Experian.

Card Credit Mobile Service Bayonne was one of 117 recipients of the "assessment grants" that the EPA is distributing nationally through the new Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act, aimed at helping states and municipalities clean up and revitalize underutilized properties.

There is no minimum credit score. Companies will take different factors into account when making the decision to grant credit, depending on their specific credit granting policies and appetite for risk. The acceptable credit score range is specific to the company that is granting you credit. So, if one company declines you for credit this does not mean that another will also decline you for credit.

Card Credit Discover Service Mayor Joseph V. Doria Jr. said: "Bayonne has a good track record when it comes to rehabilitating brownfields. The old Standard Tank site remained unusable for years and has since been cleaned up to industrial standards. Also, the old city landfill is being converted to make way for Bayonne's new golf course."

Credit Public Service Union Bayonne Economic Development Corp. Executive Director Michael O'Connor said that more than $350,000 of the grant would be used for environmental sampling and analysis, with the balance going for community outreach and planning.

Once completed, acre park is expected to have uplands and wetlands, a variety of birds and wildlife, and its landscaping will complement the Stephen R. Hudson County Park. The future east side park was once industrial property and will measure 3.56 acres. Doria said the east side has needed additional green space for a very long time. The Green Acres Program funds parkland development throughout the state and is administered by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Parks and Forestry.

Card Credit Processing Service O'Connor estimated that the environmental testing - which, he said, would be monitored by EPA and, in particular, Regional Brownfields Coordinator Larry D'Andrea - would take about a year to complete and that preliminary testing and site investigation could start by this fall.

Center Credit Service Union O'Connor said less than half of the 30-acre tract is occupied by buildings owned by public (state Department of Transportation) and private owners (including Lehigh Realty, Bayonne Industries and Bayonne Block, which has a lease with Clayton Block).

Card Credit Service Wireless O'Connor said that once the test results are known, "we'll know what the cleanup cost is likely to be."

Credit Security Service Union The targeted area is zoned for "highway development," which, O'Connor said, "permits commercial, office, retail and some light industrial uses."

Credit Report Service Future development of this area is important, O'Connor said, because "it's on the edge of a (Second Ward) residential neighborhood, it's adjacent to the city's new East Side/Halecky Park now under development, and it's within walking distance of two (Hudson-Bergen) Light Rail (Transit System) stations."
