a presentation by Ralph Braskett of the Committee for Better Transit (NJ Coordinator) style integrated public transit system in our region.

Credit First Service Union Gov. James E. McGreevey should make his recent State of the State address mandatory reading for the folks who manage NJ Transit - especially the part about changing a "culture that has spawned . . . too much unnecessary spending."

That was 30 days ago, Township Administrator Richard Brook said, and the township is still waiting. The officials said NJ Transit never previously disclosed the dirt contained toxic materials. Mayor Michael "Mickey" Muchowski said the township "saw them bringing in the soil and were quite happy with the berm itself." But he said there was some concern about safety and "because of our past experiences with NJ Transit we were reserving judgment" until officials saw the test results.

Card Credit Mobile Service NJ Transit recently planned to pay nearly $3 million to dispose of contaminated dirt unearthed during construction of the South Jersey light rail line - now called the River Line. Center Credit Service Union NJ Transit officials now are talking to Winslow about taking the dirt - for free - to cap its landfill. In a letter to the township, NJ Transit said Winslow could save about $850,000 by using the dirt as a cap. If Winslow turns down the request, NJ Transit could ask owners of the other landfills needing to be capped.
