Credit Pacific Service Union Gov. James E. McGreevey nominated seven members to the Pinelands Commission on Sunday, including former Gov. James J. Florio as chairman. Florio, author of the federal legislation creating the Pinelands National Reserve, said the commission must think about long-term issues facing the 1.1 million acre preserve.
Florio, a Democrat, member panel Gov. James E. McGreevey will name tomorrow. "Jim Florio has a strong commitment to the Pinelands, " said former Gov. Brendan Byrne, who signed the 1979 state law that, in conjunction with the federal legislation, created the Pinelands National Reserve. "It would be a refreshing change from the present leadership of the Pinelands Commission."

The committee confirmed Hagaman's appointment Nov. 26, and the full Senate followed suit Monday. Jim Florio, now chairman of the Pinelands Commission, related problems of communities such as Egg Harbor Township are due to their failure to plan properly. It is my hope that this glib remark does not reflect Florio's true feelings on this important matter.

Card Credit Processing Service The other nominees to the commission announced Sunday were: Edward Lloyd, an environmental legal expert and counsel for a state environmental advocacy group; Betty Wilson, former assistant DEP commissioner; Mullica Township Mayor Robert Hagaman; and the Rev. Guy Campbell, a Burlington County pastor.
