Last year we rated the Fanatic Hawk 275 as the best downwind race-slalom board, partly because of its performance, partly because of its construction and components. This year the competition is tougher, with the Hi-Tech 9'0" edging the Hawk out in the top-end speed and ease of jibing categories. However, the Hawk still rates as the best overall package owing to the completeness and quality of its components. Moreover, since it has less tuck, it's effectively wider and thus slightly quicker to plane than the Hi-Tech.
