Police were summoned after 6:30 a.m. Monday by a resident in a
townhouse triplex in the 1500 block of Windward Drive who reported
a home invasion, said Carroll Smith, spokeswoman for the Killeen
Police Department.
Officers en route were advised shots had been fired inside the
apartment, she said. On arrival, police found Hemingway, the
apartment owner, dead from gunshot wounds and his alleged attacker,
a man as yet unidentified, in critical condition from gunshot
wounds. The suspect was flown by air ambulance to Scott and White

26-year-old Louisville man has been arrested and charged in
connection with a home invasion and shooting that left 29-year-old
Jamar Payne dead. Police spokesman Phil Russell says the arrest of
Andrew Cochran was the third in four homicides around the city last
weekend. Cochran was charged yesterday with murder, robbery and
burglary.

News Home PageGE Home SecurityAugust 23, 2007 (Springdale, AR) A late
night home invasion in Springdale left a couple scared for their
lives. They were held at gunpoint while the suspects took cash and
medications. The lock on the door wasn't keeping the suspects from
coming in, holding the couple at gunpoint, and taking their
belongings.
Springdale Police Sgt. Shane Pegram said, "On Tuesday evening,
August 21st at about 10pm Springdale officers responded to 908
Mockingbird in reference to a report of an aggravated robbery that
occurred."
Two hours earlier, the alleged suspects forced their way into a
Springdale couple's home on Mockingbird Lane. "..and had, at
gunpoint demanded medications, drugs, money, and a few other
miscellaneous items. At one point one of the suspects took the male
victim into another part of the house at which time he handed over
some medications and some other things that the suspect asked for."
said Sgt. Pegram.
That's when the suspects left, leaving the victims shocked and
frightened. "The suspects are described as late teens, early 20s,
white males. They had scarves around their mouths to cover some of
their face and they were also armed. They're described as
approximately 5'10 tall, 150-160." said Pegram. Investigators say
home invasions are rare in the area. "Home invasions are actually
quite rare, especially in a community like this and we'd like to
keep it that way." said Pegram.
The event lasted for only minutes after the door was bust open, but
it left a lasting impact on the victims-they've already decided to
move from their home. If you have any information on this home
invasion call the Springdale Police Department. -By Tara Campbell,

Lancaster city police were dispatched at 9:25 p.m. Thursday for a
report of a home invasion. Arriving at 546 Lafayette St., officers
found an unresponsive Leuthold inside, along with a female
occupant, police reported.
Leuthold, 50, was taken to Lancaster General Hospital, where he
died. The cause of his death remained unknown Friday. Police had
not confirmed Leuthold as the victim as of Friday night, pending
notification of family. However, Lancaster County Coroner Dr. G.
Gary Kirchner confirmed Leuthold as the victim Friday afternoon. An
autopsy is scheduled for Monday, Kirchner said. Cynthia Cordero,
who lives a few doors from Leuthold's cream-colored brick house,
said she was at home Thursday night when she heard a speeding car
go up the street and hit the curb. She said she looked out the
window and didn't see anyone.
A few minutes later, Cordero looked again and saw numerous police
entering Leuthold's house. An ambulance crew carried Leuthold out
of the house on a stretcher and performed CPR on him, pumping his
chest "for quite a while, " Cordero said, but she didn't see if he
was injured or bleeding. Police announced they are attempting to
locate several potential suspects who were known to Leuthold and
the other occupant of the house.
"This incident was not random but was a targeted incident, " police
said in a news release. One suspect, a white male, was arrested
Friday morning after he led several local police departments on a
pursuit on Route 462 from Lancaster to Columbia, investigators
reported. Detectives spotted a vehicle matching the description of
a stolen 2003 Saturn involved in the alleged robbery, police said,
leading to the chase.
"Stop Sticks" were deployed and flattened the front tires of the
car, police said, but the driver continued into Columbia, where the
vehicle struck a utility pole. The suspect was taken into custody
and treated for minor injuries and is being held at the Lancaster
police station. Police had not released his identity as of Friday
night. Lancaster Police Crime Scene Unit was still at Lafayette
Street Friday evening, removing evidence in brown paper bags. Dogs
barked and children played on the sidewalks as neighbors looked out
from second-story windows and congregated on front porches to talk
about the crime.
"It's usually pretty calm around here, " one neighbor said. "This
is the first incident like this to happen in a long time." Cordero,
who has lived on Lafayette Street with her five children for 3F
years, said the main safety concern on the block has been speeding
traffic. She said she has not felt unsafe in the past. Cordero
described Leuthold as a quiet person who kept to himself. She said
he never got into arguments with his neighbors.
She said there was a new sense of fear in the neighborhood. "It has
woken us up. Are we going to have safety in our own home when
somebody just broke into a man's house and did whatever they did to
him " Leuthold's acquaintances also were shocked at the news of his
death. The owner of MicroLink Systems of Lancaster, Frank Yohe, who
employed Lauthold, said he talked to the man at 6 p.m. Thursday and
everything seemed fine.
Leuthold worked for Yohe for nearly 10 years as an independent
contractor who did computer maintenance and repairs. Leuthold lived
a private life, Yohe said, and he didn't know much about his
personal life. He was originally from Los Angeles and was in the
Army for a time, Yohe said. He had a mother who died last year in
California and has a daughter who lives in the Lancaster area, Yohe
said. Leuthold would do computer work for free for people who could
not afford to pay, Yohe said. Leuthold kept a number of pet
ferrets, which were taken to Humane League of Lancaster County
Friday night. Leuthold was known to carry his pet ferrets around
the city and wrote about the animals on Web sites.
Leuthold pleaded guilty in January 2000 to one felony count of
statutory sexual assault and corruption of a minor. He was sent to
prison and paroled six months later, in June 2000. Yohe said he was
willing to hire Leuthold after he got out of prison. "Todd went
through counseling, and everything seemed to be fine, " Yohe said.

frustrated gunman fired six shots into a condominium in the 5300

attempted to walk up the stairs of the building. When the resident
of the condominium heard her scream shortly after midnight, he
looked outside and saw one of the men running up the stairs toward
him.
He slammed and locked the door. When the woman who was being
abducted and her captor fell to the ground, she was able to escape,
according to a sheriff's report. The two males then fled on foot.

71-year-old man was charged with murder after the death of a police
officer he shot more than four decades ago, a crime for which he
has already served a prison term. William Barnes, 71, was charged
two weeks after former Officer Walter T. Barclay died from an
infection at the age of 64. The Bucks County Medical Examiner's
Officer ruled the death a homicide, saying it stemmed from the
gunshot wound Barclay suffered in 1966.
Barclay, a rookie officer, was shot Nov. 27, 1966, while trying to
stop the burglary of a beauty shop in the city's East Oak Lane
section. Barclay, who was left a paraplegic, died Aug. 19. Barnes,
who served a 10- to 20-year attempted murder sentence, has been
living in a halfway house and working at a supermarket. Several
people who have known Barnes in recent years said he has been
trying to atone by talking publicly about his regrets about his
actions and the lives he ruined.
But Rosalyn Harrison, Barclay's sister, has said Barnes should
serve time for murder. She said her brother had problems for
decades stemming from the shooting, including pneumonia, bedsores
and recurrent infections.
Barclay, however, never expressed bitterness about his fate and
only mentioned his shooter once in all those years, she said.
Homicide detectives said Barnes is in custody. -The Associated
Press Back to Home Security News Home PageGE Home SecuritySeptember 05, 2007 (Chelmsford, MA) Police
are investigating whether a trucker arrested in Chelmsford in July
is tied to two violent attacks in Pennsylvania - the fourth state
where police have probed his possible links to unsolved crimes.
Adam Leroy Lane, 42, of Jonesville, N.C., is being investigated in
Pennsylvania in connection with the fatal stabbing of Darlene
Ewalt, 42, on July 13 in her West Hanover Township house, according
to Karl Schmidhamer, a Pennsylvania State Police spokesman.
Police in Conewago Township said they were looking into whether
Lane is linked to the July 17 slashing of a woman who survived.
Lane was arrested July 30 after he allegedly broke into a
15-year-old girl's room in Chelmsford in the middle of the night
and tried to rape her. The girl's father heard her scream and held
the masked and gloved Lane in a headlock until police arrived,
authorities said. Lane was carrying knives, a belt with Chinese
throwing stars and choke wire during the attack, said Corey
Welford, a spokesman for the Middlesex district attorney.
Police also allegedly found in the cab of his truck a copy of the
movie, "Hunting Humans, " which is about a serial killer, Welford
said. Lane was being held without bail in Massachusetts pending
arraignment. It was scheduled for Thursday, but has been postponed
and no new date has been determined, Welford said yesterday. Lane
is also charged in New Jersey in the fatal stabbing of Monica
Massaro, who was found dead July 30. Police noticed similarities
between the stabbing and the Chelmsford home invasion.
New Jeresy police said they also confirmed Lane was in the area of
Massaro's apartment around the time she was killed. Last week,
police in Jonesville, N.C., said they would question Lane in the
death of police Sergeant Gregory Keith Martin, who was killed after
pulling over a stolen pickup truck in 1996. Police said there were
similarities between Lane and a composite drawing of a suspect in
that case.
The investigation into Lane and any links to crimes along his
trucking route is continuing, Welford said yesterday. "We are
working with other states and federal authorities to connect the
dots along Adam Leroy Lane's trucking route to determine whether he
may be responsible for other violent crimes, " he said.
Home invasion may be linked to murder-for-hire plot
September 06, 2007 (Salt Lake City, UT) An
apparent home invasion robbery in Salt Lake City last month could
have actually been part of a murder-for-hire plot. On Tuesday, Salt
Lake City police arrested Ashley Arellano-Lopez, 23, for
investigation of attempted aggravated murder. Arellano arranged a
contract to murder her husband, according to jail records.
On Aug. 29, police were investigating an apparent home invasion
near 1600 North and 1900 West. A woman called 911 about 1:45 a.m.
and whispered to the dispatcher that someone was in her home and
shots were fired. The woman's husband later told police he was in
his basement when he heard a crash from upstairs. When he went to
investigate he found several people in his living room and ran out
the backdoor as shots were fired.
The Deseret Morning News has learned the female caller was
Arellano. The jail report said an attempt was made to take her
husband's life on Aug. 29 at his house. Benito Israel Chacon, 22,
also was arrested this week and booked for investigation of
attempted aggravated murder. Jail documents say he tried to murder
someone. Both suspects were being held Thursday in the Salt Lake
County Jail on $500, 000 bail.

Resident kills burglary suspect
September 07, 2007 (Greenville, SC) A
70-year-old man shot and killed a burglary suspect inside his home
before he was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital with several
cuts, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. William
Willis and his wife, Judith, were asleep in their home near
Donaldson Center late Tuesday when she heard a noise from another
room, according to an incident report.
Willis got his gun and went to investigate, said Master Deputy
Michael Hildebrand. He was cut several times, most seriously on his
arm, during a confrontation, he said. The suspect was shot several
times, Hildebrand said. Willis was taken to Greenville Memorial
Hospital, where he was listed in good condition Wednesday, said
hospital spokeswoman Sandy Dees. Emzie Lee Smith, 54, was found
dead inside 9 Lake Shore Drive with a knife near his body, said
Greenville County deputy coroner Scott Ramsey. Deputies found a .22
caliber pistol in a kitchen sink, according to the report.
Ramsey identified Smith as a transient who had no known last
address. He was pronounced dead at 11:43 p.m., Ramsey said. Judith
Willis told a deputy that when she went into the dining room, she
saw her husband leaning over a sink with blood all over his arm,
according to the incident report. She tried calling 911 but kept
getting an operator, the report states. Judith Willis then called a
neighbor and asked him to call 911, according to the report.
Hildebrand said that he didn't know of any problem with the 911
system and that investigators were going to review recordings of
calls from the incident. Judith Willis later told a sergeant that
she was so upset that she couldn't be sure what number she dialed,
Hildebrand said. When deputies arrived, they found a man lying on
his back in the living room with what appeared to be multiple
gunshots to the chest, the report states.
The suspect had on gray wool gloves, the report states. Deputies
found an open window and a screen on the ground next to the porch,
according to the report. The case will be handed over to the 13th
Circuit Solicitor's Office but charges aren't expected, Hildebrand
said. -By Paul Alongi, Staff Writer, The Greenville News

"I unlocked the door and opened it, and everything was gone, " she

plasma television sets, a refrigerator, beds, dressers, a couch,
the washer and dryer, a computer, compact discs and DVDs also were
missing. Someone took picture frames but removed the family
pictures first and left those behind along with some clothing and
an ironing board.
The thief then locked the doors to the home in the city just south
of Gary. The family had no renters' insurance. "You take everything
Including picture frames and urns " Abdulla said. "It just hurts.

Both Luchetti and Amesquita were taken to University of New Mexico
Hospital, where they were listed Tuesday in satisfactory condition,
according to hospital officials. The home invasion, which took
place about 11:20 p.m. Sunday, was an apparent random act, Walsh
said. "It was fairly simplistic, " he said. "Two assailants were in
the neighborhood and apparently took an opportunity." Walsh said
the residential neighborhood in Albuquerque's Northeast Heights is
a normally quiet, upscale area. The assailants are described as two
male Hispanics roughly between the ages of 15 and 18. Both were
wearing black clothing and bandanas, and were about 5-foot,
7-inches tall, Walsh said. It appeared the culprits came through
the open garage and entered the home through a connecting door
leading into the kitchen, he said.
Walsh said Amesquita was shot twice and Luchetti received one
gunshot wound to the abdomen. Maria Luchetti was not injured, Walsh
said. Amesquita was talking to a friend on her cell phone at the
time of the assault, and her friend was able to alert police. The
intruders assaulted Luchetti and, when Amesquita began to fight
back, they began to fire. Amesquita was hit once in the arm and
once by a bullet that grazed her finger and head, according to
police.
The motive for the invasion remains unclear, but the assailants did
make off with two cell phones and Amesquita's identification, Walsh
said. The Luchettis were reportedly planning to return to Las
Cruces Monday. Calls to their Las Cruces phone number were not
answered Tuesday afternoon. Albuquerque police currently have no
leads in the crime. -By Jason Gibbs, Las Cruces Sun-News

The mother, 47-year-old Kelly Hurley, and her 9-year-old son were
bound during the robbery, the charges say. Also charged with
first-degree burglary and kidnapping was Jonathan G. Phipps, 19, of
Center City, whom Schiller told police had dealt most directly with
the boy during the invasion. Schilling had learned about the family
from a third man, who had played hockey at Marshall High School
last year with an older son in the Hurley family and had spent time
at their home. That third man had driven Schilling to other home
invasions and had told Schilling that the family kept money in a

On Wednesday night, Kelly Hurley said the gunmen threatened to

Hurley said she could not comment further on the case. Court
