Some yacht clubs are governed by stuffy and exclusive members who look down on windsurfers as ragged, unworthy, ill-mannered surf-scum. The Saint Francis Yacht Club, on the other hand, takes a completely different view. Although prestigious and steeped in tradition, the Saint Francis has embraced the sport of windsurfing as a fully legitimate form of yacht racing. Over the last 10 years in particular, the Saint Francis has become a leading organizer and promoter of a variety of windsurfing regattas in the Bay Area.

This unique location allows many races to be run right from the deck of the clubhouse. In addition to the Friday Night Racing Series from April through September, annual events include The Bay Challenge, The Bay Classic/UltraNectar Challenge (both long-distance events) and The Pacific Coast Championships (course/slalom).
